Get out your binoculars and head to the hills to catch a Perseid Meteor Shower this August. The best viewing will be between August 9th and the 13th. You may see as many as 50-100 may be seen in a single night!
Meteor showers happen when the earth passes through the orbit of a comet. Bits of the comet break off and pass through the earth's atmosphere creating a streaking pattern across the night sky.
Tips to Viewing the Showers
- Find an open location away from bright lights.
- Bring something comfortable to sit down on.
- Relax and be patient! It can take up to 20 minutes for your eyes to get adjusted to the dark and it isn't uncommon for there to be 30 minutes between shows.
