"Skewers,

Savor the end of summer with a twist on Labor Day Classics

Nothing says summer like a good grilled burger. Choose meat with a little bit of fat, make the patties but don’t over work them, take a small spoon and make a small indentation then put them on the grill. Add cheese, barbeque sauce and avocado. Give your guests napkins because these juicy burgers are sure to drip.

Instead of burgers try Turkey sliders with tomato jam. Add cheese and a wheat bun for a perfect Labor Day treat.

Summer and Corn go hand in hand; instead of boiling it try grilling it on the grill. You can soak corn for 15 minutes (so husk won’t burn) or husk the corn and put it in tin foil with herbs and butter.

Serve veggies in plastic cups for an easy treat. Cut the veggies (carrots and celery work best and you can get them precut); next add your favorite dip to the bottom of a small clear cup and then place the veggies in so that the bottom is in the dip. Yum, your guests can pick up a cup and snack during the party. If you want, you can add guests’ names or number the cups so everyone knows which cup is theirs.

Make a fruit galette. Cut your favorite fruit and berries, add sugar and lemon juice and zest. Let the fruit stand and strain to remove some of the natural juices. Take a store bought pie crust and fold each side over, put sugar and egg whites on the folded edges and bake on 400 for 15 minutes. This rustic desert will be a crowd pleaser and is easy to make.
