Does the idea of yet another weekend in your Woodland Hills apartment in your pjs, with a bowl of ice cream, binge watching Netflix almost have you looking forward to Monday? We did say almost! Then pack your bags and head out of town to these little known, a little offbeat weekend spots.
The Salton Sea
No bathing suit required here because this once tourist destination for Hollywood's elite is now a desolate and intriguing spot. Drive through California's hot desert to this remote and a bit smelly historic area. Along the way stop at Salvation Mountain, Sole Tree, and unique art communities!
Ocotillo Wells State Vehicular Recreation Area
How can you not love a state park that has over 85,000 acres, is open 24/7 and rents crazy fast dirt vehicles! That was a rhetorical question because the answer is you can't! Located about 3 hours out of LA in Borrego Springs, CA this is the perfect spot for speed enthusiasts of all ages! Oh, and in case dirt, speed and fun weren't enough, they also have ghosts. What are you waiting for, get packed, there are plenty of hotels and even a spa!!
East Jesus
Don't let the name deter you from packing a bag and heading to Slab City, yeah, don't let that name stop you either. You have to see this to believe it. Kind of a mix between Burning Man, Mad Max, and some crazy hippy dream, this "art" exhibit features art made from beer bottles, mannequin legs, burnt out cars, tires, and other mediums. Bring your camera and pack your bags. There are camp grounds, but we are thinking maybe stay outside of the "city".
